About 20 of us met Wednesday September
3, 2008 at eC’s Asian Station restaurant in Grand Junction.
First item on the agenda was our
upcoming fall race here in GJ. We decided it will be scaled back to a 1-day
event (Sunday, November 2nd only) and not include ATV’s, PeeWees or a Team
race. The feeling from the last race was that we’re still not getting
enough help. We discussed trying to get a youth group (Scouts, Partners,
etc.) to help and also that a 1-day event might be easier to get guys to
come out and help the whole time.
Jim Hines will be the Chairman.
We’ll start off at 9:00 – 10:00 with a Novice/Women race, followed by the
Amateur/Expert/Pro race from 11:00 – 1:00, then finally a Mini race from
2:00 – 3:00. Running the Minis last will let us get started on cleaning the
rest of the big bike loop while they’re running and maybe we can be all done
at a decent hour.
The November 2nd date was the best
one available in the end of October range given to Jay by the BLM. The
course will be pretty close to the same as last spring’s event. There will
not be a Pro payout as we always lose money and create hard feelings. We
may cut back the classes in case the turnout is low.
Next item was election of a Board.
The 5 members getting the most votes were Jay Arnett, Jim Hines, Joe Bernal,
Jeremy Jolley and Eric Perry. The Board is to meet soon to develop ideas
and direction for the Club. They will present at the next Club meeting.
Chris Foreman of the local Forest
Service office attended and updated us on their plans to have a trail crew
up on the Uncompahgre next summer to do some major maintenance. We
expressed our willingness to help and contribute, especially with fence
crossings. Look for this to come next summer.
We looked at a sample of the new
Club t-shirt Tracy Tubbs has been developing. General consensus was that
the shield on the back needs to move to one of the sleeves and have the
words “Club Member” over or around it. The Board will consider how many /
what sizes we ought to order and what they should sell for or if we give
them out or what. It was also suggested that we look into getting Club
jerseys, hats and sweatshirts.
Alan Peterson (Sageriders MC) has
asked if we would contribute to a reward fund he has set up to try and catch
the scumbag that stole a rancher’s generator from the Chimney Rock pits
area. The Board will consider it.
Finally, there was a suggestion that
the Club volunteer to be track flaggers at next year’s Supercross. The
Board will consider.
Next meeting to be announced. Watch your e-mail for info.
That was about it. See you next time!
