About 35 of us met Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at the
Golden Corral restaurant in Grand Junction.
Some of the highlights from the meeting:
The Board needs suggestions for Club donations.
In the past, we have donated to COHVCO, Blue Ribbon Coalition, USA-ALL and
Ride With Respect. Tell us what you think. Suggestions we've
heard already include the BLM's RMP planning at Dry Creek outside of
Montrose and the Grand Junction Field Office's current RMP revision.
Jim Cooper of the MTRA said they are looking at a dual
sport ride to Gateway. Contact him if you're interested.
We discussed the Spring Hare Scramble. Our date for the spring race
is March 27th and 28th. We are changing the format a bit. One change
is to run the unclassified "no prize" race (practice) on Saturday and again
Sunday Morning. The next reformat is to run all mini events on Saturday to
include the mini hare scramble. This change should get us out of there a
little bit earlier on Sunday.
We also discussed using transponder scoring for the spring desert
race. News to follow on this point. I talked to Brett Craig already and he
is checking his schedule.
We all agreed to run another enduro on the North Side of the Uncompahgre
in August. We will look at the dates and talk to RMEC and decide on a
solid date. Jeff and Teri Wilkes are going to the Promoters Meeting in
Denver this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed on us maybe finally
winning their Enduro of the Year!
We are also planning on several club rides this year. Contact
me for details and with your suggestions!
Other club events: Uncompahgre camp out. The club
will be doing a camp out on the north side of the Uncompahgre a little bit
in advance of the Enduro. We will ride and have some activities to make if
fun for all. Kind of a club field day. Another event that will be a lot of
fun.
Some of the local businesses that support the club were also in attendance
last night. Steve Martin of Motorcycle Accessories brought information
regarding this Club Card. This Card is for member discounts. See
Steve at Motorcycle Accessories for more information.
Steve also said he's reviving the Poker Run his
dad started but involving Mesa County Search and Rescue. The entry fee
will include a membership with MCS&R - think of it as a "Get Out of the
Woods or Desert Free" card. Get in touch with Steve if any questions
and we'll help spread the word with the website and e-mails too.
Arne Summers of All Sports Honda was there to announce some of the new
incentives that Honda is offering. Arne told us that Honda is providing
$2000 in incentives on the 2009 Honda CRF 450R fuel-injected models.
Great deal, see Arne for details.
Paul Woodward of Mac Daddy Auto also made the announcement that Alex
Dicherri is working in his building doing custom suspension work and
general bike work. Alex has been doing suspension and custom motor
modifications for a long time. He knows what he is doing and has done many
of the club members' suspension and KTM repairs. Paul also announced that he
offers discounts on automotive work for club members. Call Paul for details:
970-243-9644.
We will volunteer to flag again at the Supercross
this summer and follow it up with another Club Cart Day at GJMS.
Watch your e-mail for more info.
Steve Schiff is going to set up a Club page on
Facebook. This should be a great place to post rides info as
access will be controlled. Look for it!
On a final note, for those that want to race the spring hare scramble. We
need a lot of manpower to run this race. If we get enough people to help
this allows others to race. The more volunteers we have makes it easier to
accommodate those that want to race. We need help setting up and cleaning
up. I encourage you to help set up and clean up and still race. We have
certain preconditions and requirements that we expect from members as far as
who races for free. In general, those that have helped out in at prior
events and are helping out in the current event are allowed free
participation for themselves or family members in the race events. Just
remember our major source of revenue is from our events. Our first priority
is to make sure that all the jobs are covered. Call me if you have any
questions, comments or ideas. We enjoy providing a great event and want to
continue that tradition.
Thank You for attending the meeting tolerating my poor use of the English
language in written form:) I hope to see you at our next meeting in
February.
Regards,
Thomas
